Summary

Repair or maintain equipment, machinery, buildings and related facilities to ensure continual company operations. Perform work in accordance with manuals, blueprints, schematics, and applicable codes. Utilize a variety of hand and power tools. Specialize as to equipment, electrical, machining, welding, etc. maintenance. Participate in team meetings and problem solving sessions as required. This is the intermediate level of this job family.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on company equipment, machines, plant and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, machinery, electrical circuits, mechanical systems, etc.
  • Repair machinery and equipment according to manuals, etc.
  • Install replacement parts, etc.
  • Develop preventative maintenance procedures for production and support equipment.
  • Meet and coordinate maintenance projects with contractor workers.
  • Order parts for equipment, machinery, building and facilities.
  • Rebuild and/or fabricate parts as appropriate.
  • Provide general plant and facility building maintenance and repairs.
  • Create and/or maintain records and reports as required.
  • Operate and maintain plant utilities and services.
  • Perform job tasks according to schedules, using established safe methods and processes.
  • Work with a diverse group of individuals to achieve an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Use a personal computer, peripheral equipment and applicable software.
  • Attend and actively participate in morning meetings.
  • Complete a variety of emergency work orders.
  • Clean/maintain surrounding area(s) upon completion of maintenance/repair work.
  • Provide work directions, prints, manuals, schematics, etc. to contract workers.
  • Assist with training and/or guidance to other Maintenance Technicians and other employees.
  • Maintain familiarity of plant, equipment, and machinery manuals and other documents.
  • Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications

  • Job tasks are carried out in an environment that consists of recurring work situations with occasional variations from the norm. Job assignments usually involve a moderate degree of complexity or difficulty.
  • Typically operate according to specific work order or verbal instructions according to drawings, schematics, manuals or other written and/or established procedures and instructions.
  • Perform work assignments independently with a minimal level of supervision.
  • Most job functions or responsibilities are defined; however some tasks require the development of new ideas, methods or approaches. Errors in work or judgment can cause delays and/or add to material costs.
  • Ability to evaluate conditions, recognize safety and quality issues and determine best course of action.
  • Position requires the ability to set priorities, follow schedules and manage own time.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers. This is the intermediate level job in this job family.
  • Ability to operate electrical and mechanical test equipment, hand tools and measuring devices, etc.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, hoists, and man lift etc.,
  • Possess a general knowledge of mechanics, electricity, hydraulics and a wide variety of measuring, fabrication, building and repair tools/ instruments.
  • Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software.
  • Possess a working knowledge of machinery, plant and facility maintenance techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and diagrams and understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Position may require the ability to weld.
  • Knowledge of safety techniques, practices and procedures for handling hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures.

Education and Qualifications

(Entry) Technician Maintenance (MAIN0TECH)

  • High School degree or GED and two-year certificate from a technical/trade/vocational school and one plus years' of practical maintenance work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Technician Maintenance levels 1-5 competencies are defined by progressive levels following initial hire.
  • This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin. This information would be used for export control screening purposes only.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities. Position frequently requires the ability to make quick decisions related to the area's processes. Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills, perform basic mathematical computations, follow directions and to understand and apply work specifications in the completion of work tasks. The ability to hear, speak, use hands/fingers and the repetitive motions of hands/wrists are frequent. Ability to frequently lift 40 pounds and seldom lift up to 70 pounds. Vision abilities require the adjustment and focus of sight. Ability to be physically mobile and to climb stairs is required. Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time. Ability to work in confined spaces or up high.

Job tasks are usually performed in a production plant environment and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Occasional exposure to a wide range of temperatures. Work with potentially hazardous materials. Required to wear personal protective equipment at times. Position requires the ability to work a rotating or fixed non-standard schedule which includes weekends. Position frequently requires work in excess of 40 hours in a week. Ability to be on call. Position requires the ability to move on and/or throughout the entire facility area and outdoors. At times job duties are performed at considerable heights or in confined spaces.
