Job Description

We are seeking a casualResearch Technologistfor the summer months to assist in mouse experiments, bacterial culture, tissue culture, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, RNA/DNA extractions, qPCR, and other experiments as assigned, and will collect and analyze the experimental data.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures or protocols and utilize aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include basic tissue culture and 3D tissue culture, basic molecular biology, and other specialized histology and biological science techniques.
  • Coordinate mouse breeding and experiments. Collect mouse samples (such as stool) for analysis. Actively participate in animal experiments including culturing stool bacteria. Infect animals through the oral route using designated equipment. Most experiments will involve germ-free mouse work, with some potentially involving conventionally raised mice.
  • Assist in the cultivation of pathogenic bacteria such as Clostridiodes difficile as well as commensals.
  • Maintain accurate, rigorous logs of samples, sample use, site of storage. Enter data into database(s) as directed.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data.
  • Monitor inventory levels and proper storage of materials and supplies.
  • Handle biohazardous material under Biosafety Level 2 conditions.
  • Interact with faculty, lab and administrative staff, students, postdoctoral fellows, and outside vendors.
  • Meet weekly with designated laboratory staff to review recent data, troubleshoot current experiments, review new experimental protocols, and prioritize new experiments.
  • Must demonstrate excellent organization, curiosity, problem solving, resourcefulness, and flexibility. Time flexibility for working hours is required for certain experimental approaches.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior laboratory experience and mouse experience are desirable.
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience is preferred.
  • Coding experience in R is extremely beneficial.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($20.75 HRLY targeted; Commensurate with experience)
