Leidos is seeking an experienced software and systems engineer, senior architect (solution architect) responsible for providing technical leadership and for delivering an innovative product, service or, at higher levels, a combination of products and services that address a customer's specific business problem. Duties may include developing innovative approaches and solutions, using non-quantitative tools and guidelines from past experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works to achieve key project/program objectives and deliverables.
  • Responsible for entire projects or processes spanning multiple technical areas. Manages large projects or processes with moderate impact on the achievement of sub-family results.
  • Develops solutions to complex technical issues and problems that impact multiple area or disciplines. Regularly employs ingenuity and creativity to develop new technical solutions and systems in order to achieve functional objectives.
  • Communicates with internal team members across multiple areas and client team members. May communicate with parties external to the organization (e.g., sub-contractors, vendors, etc.).
  • Works to influence project/team leaders regarding solution design, process and/or approaches.
  • Requires expert knowledge of and ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10+ years' proven experience as software developer and/or software engineer.
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, identify tasks, provide estimates and meet production deadlines.
  • Analyzing user needs to develop and implement functional software solutions that support business rules and needs.
  • Maintaining existing applications and enhance existing software capabilities in both Tier I/II environments.
  • Working with computer hardware engineers to integrate hardware and software systems, and develop specifications and performance requirements.
  • Maintaining databases within an application area, working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team.
  • Ensuring technology solutions to align with IRS IT enterprise standards, processes, procedures, and targets.
  • Supporting migration of legacy applications from legacy platforms to newer, more modernized platforms.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code for CAPS legacy and modernized application infrastructure.
  • Experience in both waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Fluency with functional, imperative and object-oriented languages as well as legacy programming languages as defined in section 4.0 Skills Requirements of this PWS.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills * Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Working within SCRUM, Kanban and other Agile frameworks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Solution Development Lifecyle (SDLC)
  • Typically requires BS degree and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain.
  • Ability to be cleared by the US Government via a Minimum Background Investigation (MBI).

Desired (Nice to Have) Qualifications:

  • Experience working on projects within the Federal Government, with a focus in an IRS/Treasury environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of all the processes, business rules, and technology components within the Computer Assisted Publishing System (CAPS) used at IRS.

Pay Range:Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
