Job Description

The US Census Bureau (USCB) is undergoing a digital transformation in preparation for the 2030 Decennial Census and seeks to integrate advanced technologies and techniques to enhance and scale up the Decennial System of Systems (SoS). The 2030 Decennial Census program will grow to become one of the largest, most innovative Federal Civilian production environments within AWS GovCloud. T-Rex Solutions LLC seeks a Senior Database Architect to lead the design and development of key data structures and models, including the Bureau's Person Characteristic File. This pivotal role directs the structuring and management of demographic data, enhancing USCB's capacity to deliver essential population insights. In this role, you will ensure that the data architecture effectively supports USCB's broad mission of providing accurate data to inform government decision making and provide the public with actionable population insights.

Responsibilities:

  • Database Architecture: Lead the design and development of innovative database architectures tailored to enhance the functionality of the USCB systems. Drive the creation of robust, scalable databases that fully integrate across the USCB SoS ecosystem.
  • Standards Development: Develop and enforce rigorous standards for database operations, including programming, querying, and security protocols, to ensure reliable and secure data handling within a multidimensional network environment.
  • Large-Scale Design: Design and prototype the deployment of large-scale, multi-Terabyte database systems in support of USCB data handling needs and objectives.
  • Technical Collaboration and Leadership: Work collaboratively with application engineering, DevOps teams, and data scientists to ensure full data and database integration and optimization. Provide technical leadership in data architecture and database design.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, with at least 14 years of professional experience in database architecture and design.
  • Technical Expertise: Extensive experience with both relational and non-relational databases, preferably within the AWS ecosystem, including use of Python, Postgres, Redshift, Neptune/Graph DBs, and Vector DBs.
  • System Integrity and Data Modeling: Demonstrated ability to manage complex information flows and develop data models that ensure the stability and security of production environments.
  • Lifecycle Management: Proven record of overseeing the full development lifecycle of database solutions, from analysis and design through development and deployment.
  • Security and Citizenship: US Citizenship is required with the ability to pass a Department of Commerce Public Trust investigation.

Desired Skills:

  • Industry Experience: Experience with USCB and AWS technologies highly desirable.
  • Advanced Data Handling: Proven capability in data engineering or data science, with practical experience using AWS SageMaker and other industry-standard data analytics tools.
  • Professional Strengths: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a proven record of leading complex database projects that drive organizational success.

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $145,000 - $210,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. T-Rex considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
