Job Description

Venable LLP's Technology and Innovation Group seeks a Senior Privacy Analyst, Escalations to join the Venable Blue team in the Washington, D.C., New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco office. The successful candidate thrives in the intersection of product, policy, technology, public affairs, public relations, regulatory, investigations, legal, and government. This is a non-attorney position.

In this role you will work closely with a diverse set of client partners, from policy, legal, product, investigations, regulatory, and public relations to manage complex regulatory and media inquiries resulting in escalations.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end management of the escalations management program, including the launch, response, and close-out of individual escalations.
  • Identify and partner with cross-functional stakeholders, including Legal, Communications, Regulatory, Policy, Product, and Engineering, to drive escalations to conclusion.
  • Serve as the liaison between technical (ex. engineers and investigators) and non-technical (ex. legal and policy teams) stakeholders to ensure effective understanding and response to every escalation.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (ex. communications, policy, legal, etc.) to develop media or regulatory inquiry responses within strict deadlines.
  • Work with enforcement, policy, and legal teams to determine what policy violations exist and the enforcement needed.
  • Lead meetings and syncs with client leadership to provide progress updates, provide a forum for questions/concerns, and familiarize clients with strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct QA checks to investigate work to certify everything is done in line with client internal standards of work and best practices.
  • Manage incident-related investigative processes to minimize client exposure.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to a team of escalations analysts working on day-to-day escalations and special projects.

Process Development & Optimization:

  • Lead regulator retrospectives to review certain escalations to identify problem areas and improvement opportunities on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Identify areas of process improvement and service delivery, and draft related runbooks, SOPS, and other documentation.
  • Develop and deploy industry best practices on escalation management approaches.
  • Work on various special projects to develop processes and policies designed to better protect customer privacy.

Required Qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. degree (Master's degree (or equivalent) strongly preferred) in public policy, business, international affairs, political science, or related areas
  • 5 - 7 years of minimum work experience in escalations management in the online safety, security, or privacy space; work experience with a top-tier consulting firm and technology clients preferred
  • Experience with and an understanding of online privacy and security.
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to lead, manage, or coordinate cross-functional teams across numerous stakeholders at any given time, including engineering, product, and policy stakeholders, to tackle complex business, market, policy, regulatory, and technical issues
  • Comfort with working in ambiguity and an ability to logically structure issues and develop solutions
  • Excellent project management skills, and effective written and verbal communication skills for both VP-level stakeholders as well as mid-level stakeholders
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Docs is required.
  • Submission of writing sample required

Strongly Preferred

  • Understanding of and experience with media response, investigations, and enforcement strategies

The salary range for Senior Privacy Analyst, Escalations positions is $130,000 - $160,000 per year. This is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.
