Claims Professional II

Huntington T. Block (HTB) Insurance Agency, Inc., business group within Aon Affinity is the oldest and largest managing general underwriter of Fine Art Insurance in the United States. The Claims Professional manages and is responsible for all aspects of the assigned claim-related operation including the first receipt of notice and the careful monitoring of claims via a diary process. Provides expert handling of customer concerns and is accountable for business results through the effective and timely resolution of claims. Acts as a thought leader creating, maintaining, and managing claims information, statistical data, and trending in support of claims management, client retention, and new business production.

Subject to the eventual, successful candidate's location this is either a virtual and or a hybrid role with the opportunity to work both virtually and in office two to three days a week at our Washington, DC, office.

What your day will look like:

  • Liaison facilitating and monitoring the claims process from first notice of loss through the timely settlement and payment of the claim. This includes the set-up of losses, indexing, coding, and timely data entry for all claims in Affinity's AuMine (agency management system).
  • Responsible for AuMine claims reports and insurer claims bordereaux.
  • Adheres to company standards in terms of professional conduct and leading by example.
  • Assigns work, when appropriate and required, to outside Independent Loss Adjusters subject to their abilities and geographic considerations.
  • Oversees and coordinates the handling of claims by TPAs and insurer claims personnel in order to help ensure performance standards are met.
  • Provides timely notification to HTB's President, in-house Senior Underwriters, and the assigned relationship managers (i.e., Account Managers and Account Executives, etc.) and/or external agents and brokers if any.
  • Chairs the standing claims call and prepares meeting memo and implements any actions to be taken following the conclusion of the meeting.
  • Delivers quality service to clients/policyholders, internal/external brokers & underwriters, insurers, Independent Loss Adjusters, and other external concerns including TPAs.
  • Supports marketing by providing exceptional claims service and timely feedback to the Business Unit Leader on claims issues affecting Business Unit results.
  • Adjusts file reserves and approve settlements within authority, if any.
  • Keeps current on state regulations and issues, industry activity, and trends.
  • Develops and maintains spreadsheets in support of the tracking and development of claims-related statistical data pertaining to cause of loss and loss trends, etc.

Skills and experience that will lead to success:

  • At least 3 to 5 years of property insurance claims experience required.
  • Technical and business acumen associated with claims resolution skills and knowledge of insurance claims and principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
  • Ability to effectively work independently and handle all aspects of HTB claims.
  • Technical expertise in the management and timely resolution of insurance claims
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in PC office products such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook is required.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent years of industry experience.
  • Property & Casualty broker license is required for must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Adjuster license is a plus and could be required in the future.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $75,000 to $105,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

The salary range reflected is based on a primary work location of Washington, D.C. The actual salary may vary for applicants in a different geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
