Job Description

CSS is seeking a Natural Resource Economist to conduct research on the value and/or impact of natural resources in marine and coastal environments. The successful candidate will become a member of an interdisciplinary research team supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science in the Biogeography Branch. The Biogeography Branch is a nationally recognized scientific program that conducts research, monitoring, mapping, modeling and assessment of marine ecosystems. The branch conducts analysis, provides data, and creates tools and other products in support of natural resource managers and marine policy.

Responsibilities:


* Use economic approaches, such as cost-benefit analysis, hedonic pricing, economic
impact assessment, input-output analysis, recreational demand modeling, and travel
cost analysis, to evaluate the impact of environmental/natural resource policies and
assess the value of natural resources
* Identify, procure, and prepare data for statistical analyses
* Draft, review, and publish reports, whitepapers, and scientific papers summarizing
research methods and findings
* Provide subject matter expertise to colleagues, clients, and research partners through
interpretation of statistical data
* Complete or lead assigned analytical tasks and contribute to the development of
research projects and funding proposals
* Prepare/execute data management plans and archive data as required by law and policy
* Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:


* Graduate degree in Natural Resource/Environmental Economics, Fisheries Economics,
Agricultural Economics, Recreation/Leisure Studies or related discipline and at least 2
years of applicable work experience
* Demonstrated experience conducting pertinent economic analyses independently for at
least 1 year
* Comprehensive methodological, statistical, and econometrics training with
demonstrated work experience
* Expertise using statistical, mathematical programming, and database software
packages, such as STATA, R, or SPSS
* Experience evaluating and analyzing economic data from large secondary datasets
and/or primary data collections
* Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing
* Experience independently managing timelines for multiple work tasks
* Experience working effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary research team
* Non-U.S. citizens must possess current documentation authorizing employment in the
United States


CSS is predominantly a Federal Contractor and is subject to following the terms of Executive Orders.
