Job Summary:

To execute activities within the facilities department including, but not limited to, in-house repairs, maintenance, and inspections.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for inhouse repairs throughout facility and grounds.
  • Performs work in one or more maintenance trades including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and painting.
  • Performs routine equipment repair and installation of office fixtures.
  • Makes periodic or special inspections of premises to determine repair work necessary.
  • May work from rough sketches and drawings.
  • All other facilities-related duties as assigned.
  • Some weekend work required.
  • Moving miscellaneous office furniture, supplies, and other office/laboratory related equipment as needed, requiring bending, lifting, and twisting.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • N/A

Knowledge & Other Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred with a minimum of 2+ year's practical related experience
  • 1+ year's recent experience in one of the following trades preferred: Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Electrical and or HVAC.
  • Requires a working knowledge of shop math.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English language is required.
  • Ability to use simple gauges.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must be able to climb up and down roof hatch and ladders.
  • Ability to work in various hot and cold temperatures (indoors and outdoors; ranging from normal office temperatures of around 70 degrees to warmer sections of the building that could get to about 85/90 degrees, summer heat and humidity of around 90 degrees, to winter snow of around 30 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Ability to use simple workshop equipment such as a saw and a drill.
  • Ability to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment/Travel Requirements:

  • Position may require prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, and climbing; the ability to push, pull, drag and/or lift up to 25 pounds of force constantly, with exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 30 pounds of force frequently.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, or to make general observations of facilities or structures. Worker is also required to have the visual acuity to perform activities such as operating machines such as drill presses, power saws, where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach.
  • The worker will be required to work outside in all conditions, including, but not limited to heat, cold, rain and snow.
