Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO)

Accountant
$60,349.00 - $115,094.00

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) whose mission is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia is in search of an Accountant. The incumbent is responsible for examining, analyzing, understanding, and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports and providing financial advice and assistance on accounting/financial management matters to the programs. 

In addition, duties include but are not limited to:
  • Preparing and interpreting financial reports, statements, and data as it relates to revenue sources and expenditures for effective program planning
  • Advising management on the status of accounts and recommend alternatives to improve the agency's financial position
  • Performing reconciliations of accounts by selecting the proper accounting treatment and maintaining documentation for audit trails
  • Auditing accounting transactions to ensure compliance with accounting policy guidelines and governmental regulations
  • Reconciling general ledger accounts to agency records
  • Preparing various accounting reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Assisting with conducting complex financial studies, which management officials heavily rely on in their decisions regarding various programs
  • Identifying accounting situations or problems, make recommendations for the adaptation of internal controls and ensure the reliability and security of funds and records
  • Participating in the development and implementation of OCFO policies and procedures pertaining to accounting and financial reporting
  • Serving as a consultant on non-routine complex issues and attend meetings with personnel within the OCFO, other government and private agencies regarding matters relating to federal reimbursements, audit reviews and financial data studies.  
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications: Two (2) years of progressive experience performing the related duties such as: processing and reconciling financial transactions, assisting with preparation of financial reports, and verifying accuracy of financial data.

In addition – Applicant must have a bachelor's degree earned at an accredited US institution in accounting or related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. This can include up to six (6) hours of business law.   Applicants must submit an official transcript that verifies a bachelor's degree in accounting or related field and 24 semester credit hours in accounting in order to be considered. If applicable, your application package must include a foreign credential course by course evaluation of all foreign transcripts. Acceptable foreign credential equivalency reports must be provided by organizations that have current membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE).
