Job Summary
As a part of the ABA Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence Training and Technical Assistance Unit, the Staff Attorney 1 position will conduct legal research, develop substantive materials, and work alongside senior attorneys to support efforts to plan and host grant-funded national and regional, multi-day, in-person and virtual continuing legal education programs for attorneys representing victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking violence. This position will have the opportunity to develop subject matter expertise and collaborate with nationally recognized experts in the field of gender-based violence across the country. Projects include LGBTQI+ victim legal access, gender-based violence law office practice and management, custody litigation, and trial skills, among other topics.

Founded in 1994, the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence is the only national organization that focuses exclusively on improving the legal response to domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The Commission addresses the acute need to increase the number of well-trained and supported attorneys providing representation to survivors.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
-Conduct legal research and analyze laws, regulations, court rules, and policies.
-Provide technical assistance to attorneys in the field.
-Identify and recruit subject-matter experts as faculty and for provision of technical assistance.
-Facilitate meetings with project partners, faculty, and other national experts.
-Draft and update training curricula and materials.
-Develop, edit, and facilitate publication of educational resources.
-Support social media and marketing efforts.
-Act as consultant in contract development, management, and execution.
-Coordinate with training sites and other vendors.
-Develop promotional and registration materials for trainings and other events.
-Manage event registration and communicate with participants.
-Coordinate on-site and virtual trainings.
-Compile data for, draft, and submit funder reports.
-Manage budgets, assist with grant award applications, and payment processes.
-Attend weekly staff meetings and periodic meetings with ABA members and liaisons.
-Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
JD and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction. 0-3 years legal experience. Outstanding communication skills, the ability to communicate professionally, both orally and in writing. Exceptional organizational skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Deep commitment to ending gender-based violence. Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to be self-directed, flexible, and capable of managing multiple projects under tight timelines.

Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
Social media skills e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram. Marketing, advertising, and design skills. Experience with public speaking and training adult learners. Experience working with victims from traditionally excluded, underrepresented, and/or underserved communities; in particular, victims who are BIPOC and/or LGBTQI+ and living at multiple identity intersections. An understanding of how interpersonal and institutional power, privilege, and oppression affect the lives of domestic and sexual violence survivors.
