Thermal Process Engineers are among the first engineers our clients encounter. Alongside Sales and applications Engineering, for the detailed design and specification of Veolia WTS proprietary industrial evaporators and crystallizers as well as ancillary and auxiliary systems. These systems can be stand alone or part of a complex integrated process system involving other Veolia WTS technologies. Working with a team across time zones and continents, you own the process design - from lead qualification, through system design, to project execution support and ultimate system start-up support.

We are currently seeking a high-energy, self-motivated, and dedicated Process Engineer (PE) with proven track record to support process design efforts at Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions (VWTS). The Senior PE will have chief responsibility for the detailed design and specification of Veolia WTS proprietary industrial evaporators and crystallizers as well as ancillary and auxiliary systems. A successful PE is flexible and cooperative to work the process design as process details and priorities shift. The PE must balance design considerations, cost and schedule as the opportunity evolves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business or is a recognized expert in a specialised field. Responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within the functional area of expertise.

  • Key point of contact for commercial teams in assessing opportunities and developing bid proposals and for the Project Management and Engineering teams in developing solutions at the project start up phases (including travel to job site).

  • In addition to experience with evaporation and crystallisation some familiarity with industrial applications of lime-soda softening, reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration and similar wastewater treatment processes is desired.

  • Executes the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements

  • Recommends approach to meet the technical and program requirements and is responsible for overall development of the Process Flow Diagrams, heat and mass balances and P&ID'S, Designs and plans measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and pilot plant operations.

  • Perform engineering heat and mass balance calculations involving thermal processes including evaporation, crystallisation, and centrifugation with minimal supervision of the Thermal Process Manager and colleagues.

  • Create well written process descriptions and other related process design documentation.

  • Support relevant research and development initiatives such as bench scale laboratory tests and pilot tests

  • Calculate appropriate sizing of process components including pumps, valves, fans, heat exchangers, ducting & pipelines, etc.

  • Support the Project Management team in specification and procurement of process components and instrumentation as a member of a multi-disciplinary project team

  • Assisting the Thermal Process team on the development of new, innovative processes designs and improvements to existing process designs

  • Survey existing plants/equipment, troubleshoot process and equipment issues

  • Willingness and to provide technical guidance and mentor/direct junior process engineering personnel; mentor others in the organisation

  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

  • Self-motivated, ability to drive projects to completion with minimal oversight, while demonstrating significant problem-solving ability with an unfailing dedication to deadlines and commitments

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (Or a related degree - Chemical or Mechanical preferred

  • Ten (10) years' experience in process engineering related field involving the design of industrial evaporator, crystallizer, and other process solutions/equipment

  • Professional Engineer's License, or the ability to obtain one within 1 year, desirable but not required

  • Experience with industrial processes and system design - direct experience in water treatment preferred

  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems

  • Ability to guide and influence others

  • Impeccable organization and time management

  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of performing job duties without supervision

  • Clear, concise communication and presentation skills

  • Team player, with the ability to exercise good judgement under changing conditions

  • Experience with chemical engineering software such as OLI, Aspen, etc.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) and effective use of email

  • The role requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally. Must be able to travel an average of 10% to 15%. Travel will be throughout the United States with some international travel possible. Must be able to perform extended travel (up to 2 weeks duration) and occasional weekend travel.
