Job Description
Information System Security Officer (ISSO):

Serves as the principal advisor to the GII System Owner (SO) providing guidance, oversight, and expertise based on Client directives, and policies applicable throughout the Department. Responsible for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of security controls in accordance with the GII Security Plan (SP) and Client policies.

Duties:
  • Identifies security risks, threats and vulnerabilities of networks, systems, applications and new technology initiatives. Provides technical support in the development, testing and operation of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus and software deployment tools.
  • Performs product evaluations and tests/validates architecture and design solutions, and recommends and implements products/services for network security.
  • Identifies and oversees the installation, modification or replacement of hardware or software components and any changes to the configuration baseline that impacts security.
  • Performs security architecture analysis and assessments to evaluate and mitigate issues. Develops policies and procedures for securing the system infrastructure and applications.
  • Evaluates impacts from theft, destruction, alteration or denial of access to information and reports
  • Develop, implement, and communicate security policies and/or plans for data, software applications, hardware and telecommunications.
  • Provides technical oversight of security directives, orders, standards, plans and procedures. Creates manuals and ensures system support personnel receive/maintain security awareness and training.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure information systems' reliability and accessibility and prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools
  • Assist in validating and/or preparing IT systems security reports
  • Assist in developing, monitoring and reporting on organizational performance metrics to evaluate IT security and systems Certification and Accreditation (C&A) status and incidents


Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field with nine years of specialized expereince
  • Knowledge of federal government IT legislation, DIACAP, DITSCAP, FISMA, NIST 800 series
  • Experience drafting System Security Authorization Agreements (SSAA) or equivalent C&A documentation
  • Familiarity in the use of an Information Assurance tracking tool
  • Five or more years of experience in network, host, data and/or application security
  • Strong written, verbal communication skills; attention to detail; and ability to multi-task
  • Experience with networking protocols and understanding of security related technologies such as encryption, IPsec, PKI, VPNs, firewalls, proxy services, DNS, electronic mail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to perform and interpret vulnerability assessments
  • Ability to administer operations of a security infrastructure
