Five Creative Gifts For Job Seekers
Share
Chances are that somewhere in your circle of friends and family you’ve got someone who is looking for a job. Your first thought may be to give them cash or a gift card as a present if they have been added to your Christmas list. The following list is for those looking for something just as practical but a little more creative for the job seekers on their list. If you are looking for a gift that is creative and somewhat practical, here are 5 items to consider:

1. Six-month gym membership: Maybe in an attempt to save money they’ve cut out going to the gym altogether. Working out is a great way to get rid of stress, improve your mood, and increase your energy. It will also help keep them in good physical shape whish is important in creating a good first impression. And savvy job hunters will not overlook the opportunity for a little networking.

2. Sponsor them in a professional development group: Give them a paid membership to a local chapter of a professional group in their industry. This will help keep them in the loop and offer opportunities for professional development and networking. These groups give job seekers a way to stay connected to information, ideas and resources in their field.

3. Gift certificate for massage therapy or spa treatment: Who wouldn’t appreciate an opportunity to relieve the tension and stress of being out of work? Give them a gift that helps them relax and refocus so they can go back to their search refreshed and rejuvenated.

4. Send them to an image consultant: Could the job seeker in your life use a few lessons on how to make their wardrobe (and maybe makeup) work for them? A personal stylist or image consultant could make all the difference in them leaving a great first impression. The best consultant will be willing and able to work within any budget constraints and will more than likely be able to create a whole new look with what’s already in their closet.

5. Get them some coaching: Maybe your job seeker is stuck. They’ve tried everything they can think of and are unsure of why it’s not working and what to do next. A coach can help then figure out what’s missing in their marketing package, find better places to look for opportunities, and help them put together a strategic plan for landing interviews and ultimately getting the job.

While the items listed may seem little less practical than cash, they will be greatly appreciated by those who are struggling with the stress, frustration and uncertainty of being in the job market at this time. And the good news is that all of these gifts will work no matter what season we’re in.

Happy Giving!
