JMT is seeking a Project Engineer to join the Traffic department. Work duties mainly include conducting and coordinating the production of traffic signal design plans, signing and pavement marking design plans, roadway lighting design analysis and plans, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) design plans, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) design plans to the in adherence to ODOT's Project Development Process (PDP). Practical knowledge of of traffic control devices is desirable. Additionally, duties include design calculations, quantification of bid items, and cost estimates.

Other responsibilities include performing various traffic engineering studies such as determining the need for traffic signals, analyzing high accident locations, performing traffic analysis and simulation modeling, and improving signal timing. Traffic planning studies include analyzing roadway corridors and developing travel demand forecasts using transportation planning methods.



Required Skills
  • Experience using CAD software such as MicroStation
  • Familiarity with ODOT Standards and Specifications
  • Knowledgeable in traffic analysis software (Synchro, HCS, SIDRA, TransModeler etc.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, & ability to problem solve
  • Ability to follow directions and work in a team environment



Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
  • EIT certification required. PE preferred, or pursuing PE Licensure with the ability to obtain PE within the next year.
  • 3 - 6 years of experience as a traffic project engineer

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
