Chemonics International is seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist. The Sustainable Development Impact Lab (Impact Lab), located within the Office of the CEO, strategically leverages data, media, and technology for greater impact. The Impact Lab works with experts across the world to identify scalable solutions that could quickly be piloted and deployed to support new business and project implementation. By harnessing Chemonics' extensive experience and expertise addressing some of the world's greatest challenges, the Impact Lab aims to accelerate positive change and disrupt traditional development.

As part of the Sustainable Development Impact Lab Communications and Media Team, the specialist works closely with the Impact Lab, executive leadership, and others throughout the company to support the company's external communication and outreach goals. A strong writer and strategist with sound judgement, the specialist leads department initiatives under the mentorship and oversight of an advisor or senior specialist, understands and promotes the Communications and Media Team's and the company's goals, creates high-quality content and strategies for Chemonics' and external outlets, and leads the daily management of digital communication channels. The specialist oversees and manages a communications outlet. They may supervise or mentor associates. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads communication and outreach initiatives and planning under the mentorship of an advisor and/or senior specialist, working closely with executive leadership, Impact Lab teams, shared services teams, business line communications teams, and others throughout the company
  • Develops strong understanding of departmental, divisional, and corporate goals and strategies, and ensures they are integrated into communications and outreach activities
  • Identifies, researches, and crafts useful and engaging content and storytelling for diverse target audiences on Chemonics' and external outlets, including website, social media, email, events, and industry or mainstream news outlets
  • Identifies and uses data and analytics to measure impact and to inform decisions about communications priorities and approaches
  • Manages and coordinates external vendor and consultant relationships as needed
  • Collaborates and interviews executives and senior technical experts to create content for external audiences
  • Supports daily administration of digital communication channels, primarily external
  • Identifies and helps coordinate Chemonics' participation in global development forums to showcase technical expertise and technical contributions to sustainable development
  • Provides timely communications expertise and training to colleagues by responding to inquiries; depending on needs and availability, travel to project offices for short-term technical assignments
  • Mentors and may supervise associates
  • Fosters workplace culture of inclusivity, creating opportunity, serving others, building trust, fostering innovation, and exceeding expectations
  • Participates in new business roles and corporate initiatives
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the principal duties.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, international development, or related field required; master's degree preferred
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience, including experience in strategic communications; website development and/or website management experience a plus
  • Proven ability to lead projects from idea to implementation with minimal supervision
  • Ability to connect individual communications activities or products to higher-level strategies and goals
  • Ability to create story-driven content about complex technical subjects and projects that engages diverse target audiences and enhances the company's image, with the appropriate level of supervision
  • Working knowledge of uses and administration of popular social media outlets, e.g., Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube
  • Sensitivity to diverse audiences and demonstrated sound judgement about messaging and voice
  • Interviewing skills and the interpersonal skills to establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with executives, senior technical experts, and diverse staff around the world
  • Experience in or interest in learning digital storytelling, data visualization, and communications measurement and analytics
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with both internal and external teams and manage project and production schedules
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Canva, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of WordPress preferred
  • Experience designing and/or managing websites, SEO, and web accessibility preferred
  • Fluent English required; proficiency in a foreign language preferred
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of 4-8 weeks per year
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $68,560 - $85,700.

An employee's pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.

Overtime exemption status may change due to state regulatory requirements.
