BlackSky is seeking a Staff Accountant in our Herndon, VA location to join our Accounting team. This role reports to the Senior Accounting Manager and as a hybrid role, is in the office twice a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and account/project/org coding and review of purchase requisition, AP invoices and journal entries including prepaid, accrual and revenue journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements to general ledger monthly and prepare related journal entries.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations monthly and quarterly, including fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, intercompany and capital contribution accounts.
  • Prepare and review FX transactions.
  • Provides financial support for group budgets and monthly reporting including variances.
  • Monitors and follows up on outstanding receivables to maximize cash flow.
  • Significantly support annual audit process by preparing schedules and footnotes and working with others to ensure quality control on audit deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business partners and suppliers to resolve discrepancies.
  • Identify and propose enhancements and improvements to areas of responsibility and financial applications, including accounting for capital expenditures and fixed assets.
  • Prepare well-supported accounting records to ensure timely month end close and successful audits.
  • Produce robust consolidating and consolidated financial statements for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Performs special projects as requested.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong Excel spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong analytical skills along with good judgment.
  • Very detail oriented with a high level of independent and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Eagerness to learn and take on any tasks assigned.
  • Impeccable ethics with a history of maintaining total confidentiality and discretion of all employee information.
  • Business situational awareness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deltek Costpoint experience.
