$5K Sign on bonus available

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Scientist-Nuclear Imagingto support our government customer located in Ft. Detrick, Maryland.

**Candidate hired will be eligible for a one-time sign on bonus of $5,000.00**

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops ad hoc image acquisition protocols and operates clinical and/or pre-clinical PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging scanners in a BSL-4 setting.
  • Develops ad hoc image analysis protocols for images acquired using clinical and/or pre-clinical PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging scanners in a BSL-4 setting in several animal models.
  • Performs analysis of in vivo and/or ex vivo imaging data acquired on clinical and/or pre-clinical PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging scanners, as well as data deriving from other ex vivo optical/radiometric assays in several animal models.
  • Maintains and expands expertise in PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging theory, as well as image acquisition, scanner operation, and image analysis methods with hands-on experience operating clinical and/or pre-clinical scanners.
  • Efficiently plans, executes, and reports scientific activities conducted in accordance with government and leadership directives.
  • Develops strategies to expand image post-processing and/or reconstruction capabilities by using programming skills in MatLab, C, C++, ImageJ, Python or other languages/programs as necessary.
  • Participates in the presentation and publication of research findings in accordance with government and leadership directives.
  • Actively participates in practices/processes to continuously enhance data quality and integrity, including periodic development and/or review of study execution methods, and Standard Operating Procedures to identify and close gaps and refine procedures in line with top tier journal expectations.
  • Complies with the NIH Division of Occupational Health and Safety requirement for satisfactory completion of the Biosurety program and Select Agent program.
  • Complies with the physical security, protection of the division's property, protection of information, cyber security, agent protection, control and accountability, safe disposal and waste handling, and personal security guidelines set forth by the division's Biosurety program.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum of a doctorate in fields related to nuclear medicine and/or optical imaging and/or molecular imaging such as nuclear medicine, physics, biophysics, chemistry, physiology, imaging sciences, radiology, and medical physics from an accredited college or university

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Direct experience acquiring, post-processing, reconstructing and analyzing in vivo and ex vivo nuclear medicine and optical images in common laboratory animals using clinical and pre-clinical imaging scanners
  • Experience using image analysis software such as MIM Software, PMOD, 3D Slicer, Analyze, or similar for post-processing and analysis of in vivo and ex vivo images
  • Experience in image post-processing and reconstruction by using programming skills in MatLab, C, ImageJ, Python or other languages/programs as necessary.
  • Must be willing to work in coordination with team members and with other teams to execute collaborative projects in accordance with government and leadership directives and in compliance with facility and government requirements.
  • Must be willing to work under BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 conditions. Able to wear respiratory protection.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Philips nuclear medicine systems is desired.
  • Experience with Milabs and Mediso pre-clinical imaging systems highly desired.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be able to meet the requirements for Public Trust.
  • Must complete and pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries with fingerprinting, and a Minimum Background Investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain DOJ Security Risk Assessment approval.
  • Must be willing to be immunized with licensed and FDA-approved Investigational New Drugs recommended for persons at risk to occupational exposure of biological agents.
  • Must be willing to participate in periodic drug screening.
  • Must have the ability to obtain/maintain certification in Chemical Personnel Reliability Program and/or Biological Personnel Reliability Program.
  • Must have the ability to obtain/maintain CDC Select Agent Program approval.
  • Must maintain the ability to work in a BSL-4 containment environment.
