Be the best hometown department store for the family, for the home, for generations.
Offer inspiring style at a great value, tailored to today's modern family, providing an exceptional customer experience in every community we serve.
In 1854, the first store in the Bon-Ton family of department stores opened. A family composed of seven of the longest-lived nameplates in retail, each with its own storied past, coming together over the past 160 years. Through it all, our associates have been the bed-rock upon which all our success has been built. Each generation has been adapted and found new ways to serve and engage our customers with great service and merchandise.
Today, we have over 24,000 associates, over 200 stores, 5 distribution centers and one state of the art fulfillment center. We serve vibrant communities from the Atlantic states and New England, to the Great Lakes region, and across the Great Plains to the Rocky Mountains. Over a half-a-million people visit our stores and websites every day.

We are pleased to encourage and facilitate the ideal of service in our communities, and support associate volunteerism on a personal and store level. BRAVO encourage community service at Bon-Ton in a way that strengthens our corporate culture, our ability to grow as a business, and fosters an “Esprit de Corps” among our associates in markets we serve.

Since 1998 The Bon-Ton Stores has raised over $3.4 million for breast cancer research at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Medical College of Wisconsin, Lynn Sage Research Foundation, The Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota, and the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa. We are proud to support a cause, and we believe that this research is saving lives. Together, we’ll find a cure.
Each spring and fall, our customers are encouraged to donate gently used clothing, and in return, earn a savings coupon for each item donated. With the profits generated from these donations, Goodwill Industries® can provide training for individual in our communities who might otherwise have difficulty finding work.
At Bon-Ton, we take our commitment to social responsibility seriously. We are dedicated to identifying and supporting a wide range of environmentally sustainable practices. We are constantly updating our standards to benefit our employees, customers, communities and environment. In 2011 we recycled 8,360 tons of cardboard, 930 tons of plastic hangers, 831 tons of plastic film, 143 tons of scrap metal and 648 tons of wooden pallets within our distribution centers. In addition, we recycled 73,866 lbs of lamps, 23,045 lbs of ballasts and 1,359 lbs of electronic waste, allowing us to get recognition through our partnership with Greenstart Recycling (now a part of Waste Management).
The Bon-Ton’s success is the direct result of the efforts, dedication and contributions of our associates. We are committed to building a culture and environment that reflects the communities we operate in. We serve a diverse array of customers and our associates mirror the diversity of these communities. The more diverse our family of associates is, the greater our ability to serve our customers.
To support our company initiatives we must build and promote an environment that supports inclusion and diversity. Diversity describes the many differences in people in the world around us. Inclusion is the acceptance of those differences and appreciation for the value that others add to our world. These differences can be defined by race, color, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, sexual orientation, physical abilities, age or religious, cultural or political belief. By understanding our diversity we begin to practice inclusion, realizing that differing backgrounds give way to differing ideas and opinions that, in the end, bring out the best in all of us.
How do we do this?
The Bon-Ton views workplace diversity as an organizational strategy that focuses on our greatest assets, our associates and customers. Talent management, succession planning, associate development, communication, and customer advocacy are all integral parts of this strategy. Reaping the benefits of a diverse workforce entails not only recognizing our differences but setting aside outdated notions, but understanding that when we respect individuals for who they are, we foster a culture of inclusion and creativity that leads to improved productivity and mutual success.
The Bon-Ton is committed to establishing a culture of diversity as a business principal. Diversity is not about getting most people to fit into the culture, but about developing the culture around the diversity that exists. How associates think and how their opinions impact their ability to get along with, influence, and work with those around them is what matters.
Join the Bon-Ton Family and you will see how committed we are to serving the communities we operate and embrace diversity as one of its valuable assets.
