Compass, Inc. formerly known as SecureCare Services was founded in 1994 by Jacinth Faith Joyner who had a vision and fervent desire to help the developmentally disabled, senior citizens and mentally challenged individuals enjoy a better quality of life; a life in which their disabilities would not be a stumbling block in helping them achieve their dreams.

Starting from humble beginnings, Mrs. Joyner stepped out on “faith” and opened her first home in Montgomery County, Maryland. After opening the first home, Compass, Inc. quickly became recognized as one of the outstanding private providers of residential services in Maryland. Through Mrs. Joyner’s efforts, individuals have been able to enjoy more fruitful and independent lives.

Faced with the task of serving this special population, Compass, Inc. has worked hard to help each individual progress and grow positively. Very often, individuals, with challenging disabilities have been placed with the agency. With a never quit attitude, Compass, Inc. has been able to meet each new challenge and help those we serve gain a greater measure of success and dignity.

During the years that followed, Compass, Inc. has grown from a company serving three individuals, in one home, to serving more than 90 individuals in 30 homes located in Montgomery County, Howard County, Prince George’s County and Charles County, Maryland.

It is our strong belief that community inclusion makes the difference and that through our program individuals have been able to achieve the greatest level of dignity and autonomy while living in safe, secure, homelike residences.

  Staff Training
  All Residential Counselors that work for Compass, Inc. are required to complete mandated training within 90-days of hire in order to serve our individuals in a safe, individualized manner. Our qualified staff are trained to meet the needs of the individuals we serve while providing the best care. Training is ongoing to ensure that our staff are kept up-to-date of an individual’s changes.
  
  Compass, Inc. provides center-based and on-the-job training to our staff. It is our commitment to ensure that all direct care staff receive the highest quality state of the art training as possible both on site and at state and locally designated training sites. Our program is designed to meet all Maryland State mandated training requirements set forth by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).
